Preventive care ties in nicely with senior care in that we are looking for early detection of health concerns that we can improve upon, slow down, or even cure. Prevention encompasses many aspects of our health and can mean many different things. We are in favor of tailoring our treatments to the patient. There is not a single vaccination protocol that fits all animals and lifestyles. We will discuss your pet’s exposure and recommend the best vaccines to protect them. We are proponents of protection and if your pet is at risk, we will recommend the appropriate vaccinations. Prevention also applies to medications we can give to keep our pets healthy. This encompasses a wide range of products. However, we do recommend all dogs and at-risk cats be on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention. See the menu item under FAQS for the products we recommend.
Another area we can help prevent medical problems in our pets is through the use of supplements or nutrition. There are so many diets on the market, it can be overwhelming. We ask clients to consider the food brands that heavily invest in research and development and hire veterinary nutritionists. Supplements we frequently discuss are glucosamine and fish oil. We believe in optimizing health, so please tell us your concerns and we can recommend specific supplements or diets that may help. Preventive health is a collaboration, so please communicate your goals and we will try our hardest to keep your pet as healthy as possible for as long as possible.
